“Aleah’s energy and vision are quite remarkable.”
- Terry Weber, Artistic Director, Wordplayers Theatre
Hey there, I’m Aleah.
My pronouns are they/she.
I am an AEA Singer/Actor/Dancer, Creator (Content, Playwright, Musician), Theatre Teacher, Creative Facilitator, Creative Agency Owner and Coach. In short, I am The Self Care Storyteller. Being a third culture kid, I was born in Canada to two lovely Jamaicans who raised me both in Toronto and across the U.S. This culturally colorful upbringing has rewarded me with dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada. I live on the native lands of the Adena, Hopewell, Myaamia, and Shawnee peoples, currently known as Dayton, Ohio.
I root myself in cultivating community, advocating for mental health, and performing and creating artistic work that empowers black, queer femmes like myself as well as other historically forgotten peoples. If I don’t see a space for those like me, I create it. I have founded three spaces, Hear Me Roar Theatre, Sanctuary Soul House, and R3 Creative, with more to come. My philosophy is, why take a seat at the table when the community is dancing in the field?
When I’m not on stage, creating original works, or providing virtual assistance, you can find me practicing self care by hiking in the mountains, eating seafood, or cuddling with my cats, Neighbor and Frank. When the dangers of the pandemic settle, you will also find me singing my heart out at the local karaoke bar and traveling to warm, culture-filled places with beautiful beaches. I am hungry to continue being the change I want to see in the world by taking part in rich, challenging, and thought-provoking art. I will also continue to create opportunities for the historically forgotten through the performing arts, intentional self care, administrative support, and education.
