CREDENTIALS

Aleah is a proud member of ACTORS EQUITY ASSOCIATION,

& Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director of Hear Me Roar Theatre Company.

She holds a Master’s of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Tennessee, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Samford University.

Critics say:

“Aleah Vassell radiated a delicious physicality as the sexy and sensual Bunny, who is also called upon to provide a lot of wise-cracks and snappy comic retorts.” - Arts Knoxville

“Vassell was the moderating dramatic glue in every scene, allowing the face of Mrs. Clark only the occasional, carefully controlled betrayal of irritation, anger, or impatience.” - Arts Knoxville

I am a multi-faceted Artist, Creator (composer, writer), Teacher/Coach, Arts Administrator, Self Care Facilitator, and Entrepreneur. Being a third culture kid, I was born in Canada to two lovely Jamaicans who raised me both in Toronto and across the U.S. This culturally colorful upbringing has rewarded me dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada.

I root myself in cultivating community, promoting mental health awareness, and being a part of artistic work that empowers black, queer woman like myself as well as other historically forgotten peoples. If I don’t see a space for those like me, I make it. I have created two businesses, Hear Me Roar Theatre and Sanctuary Scrubs, and am only getting started. My philosophy is, why take a seat at the table when the community is dancing in the field?

When I’m not performing, creating original works, or teaching various theatre courses, you can find me hiking in the mountains, strumming my ukulele or eating seafood! When the dangers of COVID-19 settle, you will also find me out singing my heart out at karaoke bars and traveling to warm, culture-filled places with beautiful beaches. I am hungry to continue being the change I want to see in the world by performing, producing, and creating rich, challenging, and thought-provoking art.
